I’ve been cleansing a lot of aspects of my life lately (home, closet, beauty, body, food). The simpler I get, the healthier and happier I become.
I don’t want to diminish it by saying that the food part has been super easy – we enjoy eating out a lot and are very social so it is not always so simple to keep the cleanest diet in line – but it’s certainly been worth every effort. I try as often as possible (like six out of seven days a week - because #living) to stick with organic, gmo-free, minimal sugar, raw and fresh (avoid the box).
In April I did one month of a dairy free detox (and I have been a vegetarian for 13 years), so self-educating and experimenting with what makes me feel my best has been a huge process – and one that I am really enjoying! I am currently on a juicing kick - and finding that boosting chlorophyll is so major for attaining an outward glow from within.
I’ve always been a bit beauty obsessed. I dig the routine, pampering, and the ability to create a look or vibe with makeup (mostly loud lipstick and lashes). I was also a publicist for a vegan, all-natural skincare company for quite some time – which was beyond an eye opener and awareness driver for me to revamp not only what I put in my body – but also what I put on my body. Your skin is your biggest organ, after all.
I changed up my skincare routine about two years ago to have less chemicals, be more natural, organic, vegan, cruelty-free, etc. and have slowly been making improvements as time has gone on (confession: i still use prescription retinae and bleach my hair - so I am not at all preaching). Interested in a healthier grooming routine? Here are some items in your medicine cabinet that should be reconsidered / what I've so far switched over. Some companies that I love (and trust) LUSH, The Honest Company, Tom's of Maine, Sibu Beauty.
- Oral care: toothbrushes, toothpaste, mouthwash (consider a tongue scraper)
- Skincare (face wash, lotion, oils and serums, masks, toners, etc)
- Bodycare (body wash, body lotion)
- Shampoo and Conditioner (I am platinum blonde and can’t give up my Shseido and Kerastase as of yet)
